1957 Chevy Convertible - The Icon of Motorsports History

Classic car buffs around the world adore the 1957 Chevy convertible. The classic design of the 57 convertible began a few years earlier back in the 50s and the love for this beauty turned out to be more like a fine wine and grew much better with age.

Say Chevy to any classic car buff and what car always comes to mind is the 57 Chevy with the classic fins. And when pressed they will always say 57 Chevy Convertible.

The love for this classic convertible has increased 10 fold since 1957. What really help these old cars are the newer technologies available to make these Chevy Classics run and drive like better than new cars. There is also another reason for the love of these classics that is hands down the best action you can get. A '57 Chevy Convertible beautifully restored generates all kinds of attention seemingly so, more from the opposite gender. This creates the "WOW" the car we love lots of other people do as well.

Thanks to Harley Earl, General Motors design guru being under immense pressure in the previous years. The public was expecting performance that far exceeded the standards demanded by the roads they would be driven on. New style and speed were at the top of the list for '57.

Built to compete with its European counter parts, with names like MG, Mercedes and others, poor sales prior to '57 proved General Motors was unwilling to compromise. At this time in history the American car market wanted a new design with speed and style.

Once Chevrolet recognized changes were needed to improve sales they quickly jumped into action. Starting out with a period of indecision they were in the ring fight to pull off something special. The something special proved to be Chevrolet's new V8 engine.

Many people though the 57 Chevy resembled the previous year's model in appearance. But the 57 took America by storm with the new V8 specifically modified to squash the European counterparts. For the first time in American History Chevy was on top of world. In 1957 was the year that produced the most recognized car on the planet today.

The 1957 Chevy Convertible still carries so much popularity that 45 years later to the day Chevrolet ran an advertising campaign that featured the 57. American history was made along with Don Maclean's American Pie of the pop music classics when Don drove his Chevy to the levee. Today's crowd may not know who Don was but for sure they know he drove his Chevy to the levee. And there was that other great tune by Prince Little Red Corvette everyone knows that is was his 1957 Chevy Convertible he was singing about.

Still true today some of us still remember the old billboard campaigns of Chevrolet all over America. They stood proud reminding the people of this great country that they don't write songs about Volvo and it's still true today!

That 1957 Chevy V8 indeed had some magic along with the fuel injection that answered the call for power and some real action. The beginning of American motorsports history owes its start to the 1957 Chevy Convertible for sure.
