The Classic Sports Car, The 1949 Jaguar XK120

Jaguar has long been one of the best car manufactures on the globe. They started up from humble beginnings in 1922 and eventually worked their way into the mainstream. Sir William Lyons and William Walmsley founded the company in England, and today it's located in Coventry. Worldwide, Jaguar employs over 10,000 people and is a top player in their field.

The car manufacturer was turning heads soon after opening in the 1920s. Their SS 100 was a one-of-a-kind car that, unlike many others of the era, didn't require an onboard mechanic due to constant failures. Jaguars were well put-together pieces of machinery, and after the war, they began working on their XK120 model in 1948.

Originally, the XK120 wasn't even supposed to be a car. William Lyons had planned on the Jaguar's body acting as more of a vessel to showcase the new Jaguar XK engine. This inline 6-cylinder engine with a dual overhead camshaft was a beast for its day. The high-torque, low-stress design of the engine made it popular in the automotive world in general.

To sell the engine to the public, Lyons put it in a regular roadster and took it to the London Motor Show in 1948. However, it wasn't just the engine that revved people up. They were interested in the car. This sparked Lyons to put it into immediate production as the Jaguar XK120.

There was no secret behind the name. The "120" in XK120 was how fast the car could go in miles per hour. This top speed made the Jaguar model the fastest production car in the world in late 1949. The original car to break out in 1949 was the Jaguar XK120 roadster with a convertible top.

Jaguar would later release various versions of the car, from a 2-seater coupe to a fixed-head coupe, but the 1949 original became the quintessential sports car of the era and was definitely the definitive automobile design for the Jaguar line.

The Jaguar XK120 roadster wasn't exactly what we'd consider to be a safe car by today's standards. In fact, it was a bit dangerous even for the time. Even still, people loved this car. It was built with an aluminum body over an ash frame. 1950 is when a production-line-style was introduced with pressed-steel, but 1949's original was basically handcrafted every step of the way.

A straight six with 160 horsepower and a top speed of 120 doesn't seem very desirable in today's market. There are family-style vans with more power. In 1949, however, this was an extremely powerful engine for a sports car that anyone could own.

The Motor Magazine decided to road-test the Jaguar in 1949. The XK120 came with a hood (top) and sidescreens in place. Once removed, the car reached a top speed of 124.5 MPH. During a later test, a model with an aluminum under-tray tested at 136 MPH, making it hands-down the fastest production car on the planet.

The XK120's production continued until 1954, with over 12,000 cars made, but the original in 1949 is still considered by many to be the best of the bunch.

The Most Luxurious Car

When buying a luxury vehicle, practicality is obviously not the main consideration. Sure, the features and durability of the car are also important but what really motivates the buyers is how they see themselves actually driving the car of their dreams. There is a feeling that the car which they want to own is somehow matched with their personality.

To date, the most luxurious car is the 1931 Bugatti Royale Kellner Coupe which was sold for a whopping $8,700,000.00 in 1987. Although some argue that it should not be considered the most expensive vehicle because of its unavailability in the market today, it cannot be disputed that it was the priciest car to that have been built. There are still other cars that cost quite a lot but were not included in the official list due to their unavailability at the present time.

The Bugatti Veyron priced at $1,700,000.00 is the most expensive car to make the official list. While it claims to be the speediest car with 253 mph, SSC Ultimate Aero wins the title. It exceeds 253 mph, making the Bugatti Veyron the runner up. The Lamborghini Reventon is considered the 2nd most expensive car. It costs $1,600.00 and is the most expensive version that Lamborghini has ever built. There were only 20 units in the market, making it really rare. Other cars that made it to the top 10 list of the most luxurious cars include: the McLaren F1 priced at $970,000.00; the Ferrari Enzo which costs $670,000.00; the Pagani Zonda Z12 F at $667,321.00; the SSC Ultimate Aero at $654,400.00; the Saleen S7 Twin Turbo priced at $555,000.00; the Koenigsegg CCX which costs $545,568.00; the Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren Roadster at $495,000.00; and the Porsche Carrera GT at $440,000.00.

If there is a common denominator among the priciest cars is the excellent speed that they provide. How fast a car goes is quite important to its rider. The sleekness, rarity, and appearance are also factors in deciding which vehicle to purchase.

It is uncommon, even for the wealthiest personalities, nowadays to purchase a luxurious car that could very well be more expensive than the average house. Only people who are high profiled and those who are really passionate about owning a grand vehicle are the ones who are more inclined to make a costly purchase.

Aside from the beauty and value of the car, those who opt to spend a fortune on a luxury vehicle are also quite conscious of their reputation. They feel that people somehow expect them to have the most expensive stuff. Aside from having an expensive abode, owning a magnificent vehicle is undeniably a validation of how well off a person is. It is an indication that whoever owns a luxury car belongs to the wealthiest group and someone who has an important role to play in the society.

The love for valuable cars is common among everyone. It surpasses gender, age, nationality, and status in life. In fact, it safe to say that owning a luxurious car is one of the greatest dreams any human being can ever have.

The Vintage Car Rally of Sitges 2011

Car rally: Back to the 1920s

The first Vintage Car Rally was held in 1959 in Sitges, Spain. The rally was an initiative to promote the tourism during the winter months. There was a need to start social events during the winter months. The first edition took place on February the 8th 1959 and 23 cars were involved. The race was so popular that was held continuously until today. In its early years the rally was played during Carnival, but since 1988 the date was set to the first Sunday of March.

Nowadays the rally is traditionally one of the most important social events during the winter in Sitges. The start is on Plaza San Jaume de Barcelona. Many people are watching with great admiration all the vintage cars. Not only Spanish people are attending the race, but there are participants from all over the World, including United States and United Kingdom.

50 years ago only 23 participants were attending the race, but nowadays this number increased to over 80. Some of the cars are museum pieces that roll back for a few hours without complexes and face the challenge. The race is not only about the fastest car, but many drivers are dressed like a driver from the 1920s. The first price of the rally is called the Grand Prize for Elegance. Prizes are trophies offered by the municipalities, government and the provincial council of tourism development of Sitges.

The next race will be held in the middle of March 2011. The vintage cars will drive from Plaza de San Jaume in Barcelona, along the old seaside road, to Sitges. The route is an old one used for many eras along the Coast of Garraf. Some of the real vintage cars stop at the Marina on the way for a lunch. Most of the drivers wear classic outfits.

Sitges is a small Spanish town about 35 kilometers southwest of Barcelona. Other famous events in Sitges are the yearly Film Festival and the Carnival. The economy of Sitges is mainly based on tourism and culture. If you want to see the start of the race you might want to stay in Barcelona. To visit the car really have a look at the Web site of apartments Sitges for affordable accommodation in Sitges. If you'd like to watch the old vehicles you can go to Parc de la Ciutadella in Barcelona the day before the race. You could attend the start on Sunday at Plaza de San Jaume and take the train to Sitges to see the finish. The Sitges Vintage Rally is not a rally about who's the fastest. Drivers get extra points for dressing up appropriately.

The Classic Citroen 2cv

The used Citroen 2cv ( deux chevaux vapeur) meaning 2 tax horsepower was first released on the market in 1948, and continued to stay on the production line until 1990. This funny little car was technologically advanced and innovative, with unconventional looks, which were inspired by the bodywork of the Bauhaus.

Originally only designed to move the French peasantry on from their horse and carts into the automotive world, it still remains one of the most iconic used Citroens to date! It was designed for its low cost, simplicity of use, versatility, reliability and it's off road driving ability. With its light, easily serviceable engine and extremely soft and long travel suspension, it was certainly suited to the rugged French countryside.

During production which spanning over 42 years 3,872,583 2cv's were produced and many of these used Citroens are still on the roads today - although are getting rare!

Research shows that the original design brief was to enable 2 people or peasants as it was stated, to drive 100kg of their farm goods to their local market at a speed of around 60km/hr (37mph), across muddy unpaved roads if necessary. Under this same brief it was stated that the car would use no more than 3L of gasoline to travel a distance of 100kms, which would have given this little used Citroen a return of 78mpg, and of course one of the most famous parts of the brief was that the Citroen 2cv would be able to drive across a ploughed field without breaking any of the eggs that it was carrying!

Many different special editions were produced including the SAHARA, which was built for the more difficult off road journeys - with only 694 of these made. At peak time of production a new Citroen 2cv could have taken anything from 3 years to 5 years for delivery, so at the time used Citroen 2cv's were more expensive than the new as customers were not willing to wait.

Originally built with an air cooled, flat twin, four stroke 375cc engines, giving the driver a tiny 9bhp, followed by a slightly bigger 425cc engine in 1955. Then finally a 602cc engine arrived giving a much better 28bhp but only at 7000rpm! At the time, due to the tax classification of the car changing it then made this a 3cv engine, but the commercial name remained the same. One of the other small advantages to owning one of these used Citroens was that if the motor of the battery ever failed then the 2cv had the option of hand cranking, with a jack handle serving as a starting handle, and Citroen cleverly kept this on the cars until the end of production in 1990. Apart from the pre-war cars, this is the only used citroen you can buy with a hand crank!

In today's market, searching online for a used Citroen 2cv, you can easily find one or two unrestored models for as little as £350, and restored models fetching up to £8,750. In the U.K, it seems that most onwers tend to keep hold of them and take a lot of care for them, and this hard work can pay off as a used Citroen 2cv SAHARA in perfect condition could fetch you as much as €62,000 on the European market.

When it comes to driving one of these retro Citroens, many owners describe them as fun to own and drive, easy to maintain, only needing one spanner and a hammer. Although performance may be a little poor, with a little bit expertise any drive could keep up with the flow of traffic, and you will never have to fear a speed bump again (the faster that you drive over them the less you will feel it!), one other cool upside to owning a Citroen 2cv is the fact that you can paint them any way or design in the comfort of your own garage!

The Classic Thunderbird

Look! It's a bird! No, it's a plane! No, it's Ford Thunderbird. Cheesy you say? Well, it isn't really cheesy at all especially when Thunderbird's performance can be compared to Superman's powers. Seriously, the Thunderbird is classified as one of the unique muscle cars of its generation. By the year 1955, it served as an American automotive icon for the United States and was supported by the automobile manufacturers, thinking it would boost car sales. But much to their surprise, the sales turned the other way around. The car did not have strong selling power but continued to be produced until 2005.

In spite of the market disappointment, Ford Thunderbird managed to stand on its own and became one of the legendary muscle cars in the 50s through its subtle appearance. The boxy structure of the car and the wide-pillar roof made the car luxurious. It had four doors, and the rear was opened backwards unlike the traditional forward opening. It used the latest in motor engines called the V8, which were available in different horsepower. The elongated front design made the car more unique than other muscle cars. The car's interior was not very spacious but was just enough for two to three people. Even though the model was not improved by the company, a lot of color variants were still released to gratify the customers' needs.

While the Thunderbird was never quite as popular as the Mustang, Ford's top-selling muscle car, it did find its own niche in American history. This car was marketed as the "personal luxury car", and over 4 million of these cars were produced in its 50 year history. There were over 10 generations of the Thunderbird, with each new generation being slightly better than the last one.

The original run of these cars stopped in 1997. In 2002 Ford decided to resurrect the Thunderbird one last time. However sales once again sagged, and in 2005 production finally ended, possibly for good.

About Mercedes Benz Cars

Mercedes Benz, in 2006 launched a range of models, which were designed according to modern day requirements, while keeping to the original Mercedes Benz style and elegance. The original Mercedes Benz M-Class debuted in the year 1998. It was built in the U.S., at an engineering center near Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and was exported all over the world and Mercedes Benz certainly cashed in on this one.

The M-class features an elegant, sporty interior, with dynamic powertrains. It has a welded unibody construction frame, a technique that emphasizes high strength and low weight, and reduces the overall height and is a great Mercedes Benz investment.

Mercedes Used Car Auction: Although American car manufacturers hold auctions, which offer cheaper cars than many car manufacturers, Mercedes cars are more popular because of their good condition. Mercedes Benz auctions are conducted regularly. There are several types of Mercedes used car auctions. Customers can participate in these auctions through the Internet, in the comfort of their homes.

Shopping at an online auction is in fact very simple. All that customers have to do is set up an account, and then shop online following the directions on the website. Using the Internet offers customers in Canada access to car auctions all over the globe, including Toronto. Moreover, they can get hold of various facts about the Mercedes Benz cars on sale, such as the kind of model available, the mileage etc., and the facility of making a bid online

Mercedes used cars have recorded the maximum sales online. People prefer Mercedes cars over other technology and added glamor. Mercedes Benz is a great family car. It offers a smooth and quiet ride, plush interiors, and seats that are comfortable, with a lot of leg room. The reputation for quality and reliability has made Mercedes cars the most sought after in the market.

Besides, the Mercedes car dealers are known for their exceptional after-sales service. Dealers in Toronto guarantee to comply with any of their customer's future car parts needs, with 100% authentic replacements. They also supply spare parts at competitive prices even if they're difficult to find elsewhere. Furthermore, Mercedes used car companies take care to ensure all the customer's requirements are fulfilled on time, and customs matters are dealt with efficiently. Obviously not everyone is considering buying a Mercedes Benz at first go because of the expensive price tag. This problem can be resolved if you look at the used car market or consider auto loans.

The Volkswagen Beetle

What does The Beatles, hippies, and Adolf Hitler all have in common? They all have something to do with the Volkswagen Beetle.

If you're one of the people who have lived through the psychedelic and groovy era which is the 60's, you've probably seen a Volkswagen Beetle. It can be pretty hard not to see one, it is the car which has the most units sold (20 million Beetles were manufactured, and some are still running today).

One of the proudest moments of the Volkswagen Beetle was when one was featured on the cover of coincidentally, the Beatles album cover for "Abbey Road". The Beetle on the cover instantly became a huge hit among the fans of The Fab Four. The car's license plate was stolen multiple times and went through different hands. The license plate became as popular, if not more popular than the car itself.

That original Beetle in fact, became almost like an icon that represented the era of the hippies. It is such a popular car that when it came up for auction in 1986, it was sold for an eye-popping amount.

Now while the Beetle with its air-cooled Boxster engine may not be have a lot of horsepower to spare, it more than makes up for it with its charming looks and versatility. The Volkswagen Beetle, or "Bug" as it is more affectionately called has a front bumper that seems to resemble a smiling face. And this feature is what made the Bug the hippies' car of choice. This friendly-looking car is used by the hippies not just to get from place to place; they also paint their Bugs with vibrant colours, in an effort to bring their message of love and peace to the masses.

But the Bug's history isn't all love and happiness. Most people don't even know that the Volkswagen Beetle's design was actually thought of by none other than Adolf Hitler himself. Hitler wanted a car that could be manufactured relatively cheap so that the masses could afford to buy one. This is where the company got its name; Volkswagen literally translates into "the People's Car".

But despite being the lovechild of the German Fuhrer, it still became one of the most recognizable car models, ever.

The Perfect Bare-Bones Muscle Car

In 1968, the first muscle cars were moving away from the true spirit of muscle cars, which was a fast car that was affordable for the common man. So the folks at Plymouth Cars, a division of Chrysler, even though they already had a high-performance car out in the market (the GTX), went back to the drawing board. They wanted to build a car that was not only fast and powerful but one that wouldn't burn a hole in an ordinary worker's pocket. These goals were met, and then some. This new car that was able to do the quarter-mile at 14 seconds and costs just under $3000. This is how the Plymouth Roadrunner was born.

Plymouth paid Warner Brothers a large amount of money just so they could use the name and image of their famous fast-running cartoon character. They even spent $10,000 (an exorbitant amount in the 1960's) just to develop a horn that made noises like the "beep-beep" sound made by the Roadrunner in the cartoons.

When the boys at Plymouth said they were going back-to-basics with the Roadrunner they weren't kidding. True to the essence of muscle cars, anything that wasn't essential was left out. The interior was very sparse, with just a basic cloth and vinyl bench seat; they used a bench seat because the shifter was just basically a metal rod protruding out of the floor. The shifter only had a rubber boot to cover it and there was an a centre console to raise it. And in the earlier models there wasn't even any carpeting. There weren't many options when it came to the Roadrunner, just the basic AM/FM radio, air-conditioning (except for the one with a 426 Hemi engine), and automatic transmission, power steering, and front disc brakes; it's was as basic as you could get.

Plymouth concentrated on the thing that really made a muscle car, the engine. Although they put a smaller Hemi engine in the Roadrunner, it could still go as fast if not faster than the high-end GTX. This is because the Roadrunner had a better power-to-weight ratio; since everything that was not needed for the car to go fast was omitted, it made the car lighter than the GTX.

The Plymouth Roadrunner was truly a testament to the saying "less is more."

1971 Mustang - The First Year of the "Big" Mustang

A 1971 Mustang was my first Mustang and frankly the gateway to my life long obsession with the car. Certainly a bigger car but surprising to most people only one inch longer in wheelbase than the 1970 Mustang. Gone now are the Shelbys and the 428 engine but for one last year the meaner and faster 351 and 429 Boss ruled the pavement. In 1971 Mustang still had the Sportsroof, Coupe, Convertible, Mach 1, Grande and Boss versions.

The 1971 and 1972 Mustangs are truly the hardest for the average person to tell apart for the first time ever the front grill did not change. The only at a glance way to tell the difference in the standard models is the lettering on the rear trunk lid. In 1971 the word Mustang is spelled out in block letter across the trunk lid and the 1972 models have a script Mustang above the right tail light. For the Sprotsroof models that had the black tape across the trunk the word Mustang was spelled out in block letters. An interesting change from the 1970 Mustang to the 1971 Mustang is the hood. For the first time the hood extends clear to the windshield which makes for the longest hood ever on a Mustang.

For the first time the Mach 1 sports interior was available as a separate option from the performance upgrades. So you could get a regular 1971 Sportsroof Mustang with a Mach 1 interior. A well thought out upgrade for 1971 was the ram air system. While the Mustang shaker hoods had gone the optional ram air systems were effect and let's face it very cool.

The standard engine for 1971 still remained the 6 cylinder, however the displacement now was 250ci and was available with either a 3 speed transmission or Crusie-O-Matic automatic transmission. The large body styled continued on till 1973. I have found in talking to people that you either love or hate the "big" cars. I have to fall on the side of love.

In order to keep your mustang up to date you should always invest in the best Mustang Parts. Learn more about mustang parts at superiormustangparts.com

1970 Mustang, the Last of the Classic Pony Car?

1970 rolled around and Ford remained the leader in the pony car revolution. With Camaro comfortably in the rear view mirror little was done to change the 1970 Mustang. It was a very successful year at the race track for Mustang winning the Trans Am series with the likes of Parnelli Jones at the wheel of the Boss 302 Mustang. It is interesting to note that 1970 also brought the last year of production of the "classic" Shelby Mustang and even those were 1969 Mustangs with minor changes from 69 and updated VIN numbers.

At a glance the easiest way to tell the difference between a 1969 Mustang and a 1970 Mustang is the ever changing grill. The 4 headlight system from 1969 is now gone replaced by single headlights place on the outside and flanked by simulated air scoops. The protruding 3 lense tail lights, they were replaced by a similar 3 lense set up but were now inset into the tail panel. Also gone was the simulated air intakes behind the doors.

Thankfully there still remained a wide choice of power trains on the 1970 Mustang. Amazingly the 6 cylinder engine was still the standard offering up 155 Horse power. For those not so faint of heart the 429 Boss engine was also available rated at 375 horse power which most Mustang enthusiast will agree was grossly under rated to satisfy government regulation at the time. An interesting note about the Boss 429 is that the automatic Transmission was not available in the standard boss bust was available in the Boss 429 with the Drag pack option.

In 1970 more than ever to that point Mustang reached out to the Luxury crowd with the Grande model. Offering 55 pounds of special insulation for a quieter ride and special high back bucket seats with cloth hound's-tooth insets.

Was this the last year for the true classic Mustang pony car? Most will agree that is was, but don't sell short the awesome models to come.

The Origin of True Muscle Cars

Muscle car is the name used for a wide variety of high performance cars. Generally, the term muscle car pertains to the American front wheel drive mid-size cars that were manufactured in the late 60s and early 70s. These cars were equipped with powerful and huge V8 engines or the 2 straight-4 engines that share a common crankshaft. These cars were sold at an affordable price for drag racing and street use.

With this in mind, muscle cars can be easily distinguished from the usual 2-seat sports car and the expensive GTs that were projected for road racing and high-speed touring. Muscle cars were a result of the American automobile wars between the late 1960s and the oil crisis in the 1970s.

Those cars were made with huge engines that consumed considerably huge amounts of gas generating close to 500 horsepower. Although handling was poor in many models, the price was considered affordable and the design was quite aggressive. It is important to point out that the cars that remain from this era, are worth a considerable amount of money when they are in good shape. A few of the iconic muscle cars include the Chevrolet Camaro, Dodge Charger, Pontiac GTO, Corvette and the Chrysler Hemi Cuda.

Aside from building originally and historically on American soil, these cars were also manufactured in the fast developing countries such as South Africa, Australia and the United Kingdom. However, the American models usually hold the most value for collectors.

One drawback to these cars is that they were made for straight-line speed and they did not have a sophisticated chassis. Also, they did not have the veracity in engineering works or the desired flexible look of high-performance European cars. However, there are different opinions as to whether high performance compacts, full-size cars and pony cars can be considered as muscle cars.

The debate about the estimation of the origin of these muscle cars is still on going among car enthusiasts but it was the 1949 Oldsmobile Rocket 88 that acquired the interest of car aficionados when it came to power and speed.

1969 Mustang Recognition

1969 was the second re-styling since the Mustang was introduced in 1964. Especially with the introduction of the 2005 and newer Mustang, the 69 Mustang body style is arguably the most popular body style of all. Despite the 6 cylinder still being the standard engine for the Mustang it was widely available with V-8 engines from the small block 302 all the way to the husky big block 428. The basic 3 models still remained the Coupe, Sportsroof and Convertible. There were of course the ever present upgrades available to coincide with Lee Iaccoca's master plan such as the Mach 1, GT, Boss and the luxury Grande. Notably this was the last year the GT would be available for some time.

Certainly the easiest way to identify the 69 model is by the plastic grill with inset headlights. This was the first year of the plastic grill and the only year of the classic Mustang the headlights were inset into the plastic grill. This inset style has become the standard for the modern Mustang that is so poplar today. Another dead giveaway is the fake reversed air scoop behind the doors. If all you get is a rear view the easiest way to tell from the back is the 3 tail light lenses protruding from inside the tail panel. Again, this was the only year for this tail lamp in the classic Mustang. Notably also, this was the last year to find the key switch on the dash. in the 1970 model the key switch was moved to the locking column. Any of those ways will certainly be a sure sign you are looking at a 1969 Mustang. Plus you'll look really smart to all your Mustang buddies. Have fun!

10 Amazing Things About Mercedes Benz

When Mercedes Benz came up with the first patented petrol car, they changed the world of transport forever. After such an enormous achievement, many companies would be far too busy feeling smug to do much else of note. But not this one... Since their breakthrough with the petrol-powered car, Mercedes have remained at the forefront of technology and have introduced many new innovations to their vehicles over the years.

Here are ten examples of their continuing ingenuity -

1. Benz, Maybach and Daimler independently developed the internal combustion engine way back in 1886.

2. In 1924, Mercedes developed the first car to have brakes fitted to all four of its wheels.

3. If you thought that safety cages with 'crumple zones' were only developed in recent years then think again. Mercedes pioneered this idea back in 1951!

4. The first car airbags were created by Mercedes and introduced to the European market in 1980.

5. 1986 saw the advent of Traction Control systems. And three guesses who was responsible!

6. The 1980's also saw Mercedes Benz's creation of the very first 'driverless car'. It created a great deal of excitement in the automotive industry and has led to much research into robot vehicles.

7. In 1981, the 'S-Class' was the first car to be fitted with seat belt 'Pre-Tensioners', adding a whole new level of safety to car travel.

8. 2003 was the year that Mercedes unveiled '7G-Tronic', the world's first seven speed automatic transmission.

9. In recent years, Mercedes have also introduced their 'Pre-Safe' system. This actually prepares a vehicle with the optimal safety settings in the event of an imminent crash. It will even close the windows and sunroof, tighten the seatbelts and move all seating to its safest position.

10. Another modern innovation is the (W211) E320 CDI. This has a 3 litre V6 Common Rail diesel engine that can produce a jaw-dropping 224 horsepower. Unsurprisingly, it went on to three different world endurance records with an average speed of 139.70 mph!

Fans of Mercedes-Benz can now enjoy the car for less with Mercedes Benz Used Cars at one of 12 franchised approved used Mercedes Benz dealers across the UK from Inchcape Retail.

1957 Chevy Convertible - The Icon of Motorsports History

Classic car buffs around the world adore the 1957 Chevy convertible. The classic design of the 57 convertible began a few years earlier back in the 50s and the love for this beauty turned out to be more like a fine wine and grew much better with age.

Say Chevy to any classic car buff and what car always comes to mind is the 57 Chevy with the classic fins. And when pressed they will always say 57 Chevy Convertible.

The love for this classic convertible has increased 10 fold since 1957. What really help these old cars are the newer technologies available to make these Chevy Classics run and drive like better than new cars. There is also another reason for the love of these classics that is hands down the best action you can get. A '57 Chevy Convertible beautifully restored generates all kinds of attention seemingly so, more from the opposite gender. This creates the "WOW" the car we love lots of other people do as well.

Thanks to Harley Earl, General Motors design guru being under immense pressure in the previous years. The public was expecting performance that far exceeded the standards demanded by the roads they would be driven on. New style and speed were at the top of the list for '57.

Built to compete with its European counter parts, with names like MG, Mercedes and others, poor sales prior to '57 proved General Motors was unwilling to compromise. At this time in history the American car market wanted a new design with speed and style.

Once Chevrolet recognized changes were needed to improve sales they quickly jumped into action. Starting out with a period of indecision they were in the ring fight to pull off something special. The something special proved to be Chevrolet's new V8 engine.

Many people though the 57 Chevy resembled the previous year's model in appearance. But the 57 took America by storm with the new V8 specifically modified to squash the European counterparts. For the first time in American History Chevy was on top of world. In 1957 was the year that produced the most recognized car on the planet today.

The 1957 Chevy Convertible still carries so much popularity that 45 years later to the day Chevrolet ran an advertising campaign that featured the 57. American history was made along with Don Maclean's American Pie of the pop music classics when Don drove his Chevy to the levee. Today's crowd may not know who Don was but for sure they know he drove his Chevy to the levee. And there was that other great tune by Prince Little Red Corvette everyone knows that is was his 1957 Chevy Convertible he was singing about.

Still true today some of us still remember the old billboard campaigns of Chevrolet all over America. They stood proud reminding the people of this great country that they don't write songs about Volvo and it's still true today!

That 1957 Chevy V8 indeed had some magic along with the fuel injection that answered the call for power and some real action. The beginning of American motorsports history owes its start to the 1957 Chevy Convertible for sure.

History Of The Bugatti Race Car

The name Bugatti may not be a household name, but among car enthusiasts the brand is something of an icon, though only a few thousand Bugattis have ever been produced. Founded in France by Ettore Bugatti, an Italian immigrant, the company is legendary for producing some of the fastest and most exclusive cars in the world. Starting in 1909 - making the company one of the earliest automobile manufacturers still in existence - the Bugatti brand has experienced quite the renaissance in the last fifteen years or so.

At the dawn of World War II, it looked as though Bugatti was going to be one of the prime contenders for racing domination. The Bugatti team won the first ever Monaco Grand Prix of 1929. This race has gone on to become one of the most important, and prestigious, auto races in the world. Not long after, the company's driver Jean-Pierre Wimille won the 24 hours of Le Mans twice, in 1937 and again in 1939.

The company early on became known for its artistic and high-level engineering. Of the many hallmarks Bugatti was known for were engine blocks that had been hand scraped, so that they did not require gaskets, as well as an exposed engine compartment. At the time, Bugatti's main competitor was Bentley. This British company seemed to be directly competing for the same high-end automobile market. Many of the models produced in those early days by both Bentley and Bugatti were made only in limited numbers, and most were created by hand. Only a few examples of each Bugatti model were ever produced because of their exclusivity.

Like many automobile brands, however, the original company failed during the materials shortages of World War II, though it did produce one model in the 1950s. The company was eventually purchased for its airplane parts division. Having fallen into the shadows of other brands, Bugatti rose to the surface of the racing world again in the late 1990s when Volkswagen bought the brand and started working on a series of three experimental cars. Today Bugatti has rejoined the ranks of some of the more famous and infamous racers, after releasing the Veyron 16.4 in the US and debuting in Sicily a few years later.

The modern history of Bugatti includes Lamborghini designers and the acquisition of the Lotus car company - testament to the brand's high-end following. In 1998, under Volkswagen, Bugatti began working on the EB118 concept. The EB118 was a touring sedan with an 18 cylinder W-configuration engine. The two-door coupe boasted 555 horsepower. A year later the EB218, a four-door limousine, surfaced at the Geneva Auto Show. Following close on the heels of the EB118 and EB218 were the Veyron 16.4 and the Chiron.

Bugatti touts their race cars as aesthetically appealing, high-performance machines - showing, once again, that the Bugatti brand may have changed hands, but has not changed its commitment to quality automobiles. Today, the Bugatti remains a favorite - though often unattainable - brand for many a racing enthusiast.

But what if you want to buy a used sports car that suits your budget. There are so many of these in the market today but the only disadvantage is that they are not always affordable. One of the most famous sports cars is the Lotus Elise. It is one of the most expensive cars in the entire world. A used Lotus Elise will be the same as a brand new one. The only difference is that you will be paying lesser. When you are buying a used car then you need to make sure that you check the start up. Because n case there is any problem with the car, you will be able to analyze the problem once you start it. Then the next thing you need to do is take it for a test drive. Because once you are actually driving the car you will know if there are any more problems with it. Usually the previous user will take good of his or her Lotus Elise, but just to be on the safer side you need to make sure that the vehicle functions properly.

It is always preferable to buy these from a dealer. He will make sure that all the problems are rectified and then put it up for sale. A reputable dealer will sell you a Lotus Elise which will look brand new but you will be paying lesser. You need to really look for a reputable and reliable dealer if you want to make savings on your investments. Ferrari 430 Scuderia: Uncompromising Performances

The 430 Scuderia is a Ferrari high performance mid-engine coupe with an 8 cylinder engine. The model is based on the F430 but features some extraordinary characteristics which turn it into a unique supercar. The 430 Scuderia is one of strongest and purest Ferrari in terms of uncompromising sportiness and has an appearance as well as sound of immense impact. It is one of the best cars for the most passionate and sporty customers who love driving their Ferraris in a race track environment and that are looking to constantly experience the limits of performance.

The engine is a development of the 4308 cm3 90° V8 engine mounted in the F430 which benefits from a series of modifications to enhance the automobile performance. The power output is increased from the 114 CV/liter of the F430 to the 118 CV/liter with an overall power output of 510 hp.

Adjustments have been made to the air intake system which has been optimized to reduce load loss whether the use of carbon fiber air filter box has allowed to minimize weight. New, specifically designed pistons have been used on the 430 Scuderia to increase the compression ratio to 11.88:1. The overall outcome of these modifications is demonstrated by the 430 Scuderia torque and power output curves.

The sound of the engine and exhaust is one of the distinctive features of all Ferraris and the 430 Scuderia does not make any exceptions. Specific devices have been introduced into the air intake system to modulate and emphasize the engine's sound which is clearly heard inside the car, becoming particularly powerful and invigorating when the accelerator is pushed. The overall performance of the Scuderia can be compared to the Ferrari Enzo, which is known as the supercar with the best performance of any other car designed for road usage. Like the Ferrari Enzo, the 430 Scuderia performed an impressive time of 1:25 at Fiorano race track.

The results was achieved thanks to the 430 Scuderia engine's improved performance output, its lightness, its improved aerodynamics efficiency as well as braking system with larger-sized carbon ceramic brake discs. Several chassis developments and specific front tires with enhanced levels of grip also contributed in achieving 430 Scuderia outstanding performance. The integrated E-Diff in the gear change is probably the most significant feature in making the Ferrari 430 Scuderia drive like a racing car. After the F430, the 430 Scuderia is the first on road car with top performances to feature an electronically controlled differential unit. The E-Diff is regulated thru the manettino on the steering wheel and allows varying the set up accordingly to the driver demands as well as road conditions.

Reasons to Buy a Used Peugeot

Peugeot has been one of the nation's favourite car manufacturers for years. The reasons for that are simple. Peugeot cars represent great value for money and great build quality - and with a number of recognized official dealers all over the country, they are also very easy to get hold of and maintain properly. Buying a used Peugeot is a good idea simply because running one is made simple by the amount and quality of official Peugeot dealers around and about.

When you buy a used car, you should always try and buy it from an official dealership. That is because the official dealership has the integrity of the car maker's brand name to uphold. If you buy a used Peugeot, you should buy it from an official Peugeot dealer. That way you know that it has a full service history, is completely checked and ready to go, and is worth the price tag stuck to its windscreen.

A used Peugeot bought from an official dealer will come to you after a complete service and valet, so buying one is almost like buying a brand new car. Indeed, in some ways you may actually feel that you have been given a better deal by buying your Peugeot from a pre owned section of the car lot rather than brand new. Your engine has already been broken in and all the moving parts of the gearbox have settled into life properly and well - so the car should run perfectly from the word go, with no need to run it in or get the engine warmed up over the first 600 miles or so.

A used Peugeot should retain its value pretty well, if you look after it. That means that you can have a used car now, and still look to trade it in against the value of a new Peugeot in two or three year's time. This kind of arrangement is ideal, for example, for a second family car - or for a child's first car. You can get a pre owned Peugeot for your son or daughter to see him or her through his or her college years. When he or she graduates and gets a job, that same car can be traded in for a newer model or even a brand new one.

Your used Peugeot will give you ideal performance in cities and on long journey. Most Peugeots have been designed for maximum comfort and efficiency in small to medium sized car bodies. The Peugeot is a great vehicle for doing the weekly shopping and for getting away on weekend breaks. The Peugeot is a cosmopolitan car for modern town and city dwellers.

Your used Peugeot will also of course be subject to a complete warranty and guarantee, courtesy of the manufacturer's name again. And if that isn't reason enough to buy one, one doesn't know what is.

Dickens group is a good place to search for new and used cars of Vauxhall and Peugeot make in the UK. A used Peugeot should retain its value pretty well, if you look after it.

The Eleanor Mustang was made famous from the movie gone in 60 seconds starring Nicholas Cage and Angelina Jolie.
